Land is Medicine is designed for those ready to move beyond the basics. Whether you're a permaculture designer wanting to grow your herbal literacy, a herbalist looking to ground your craft in regenerative land systems, or a grower aiming to bring well-made medicinal products to market — this course gives you the strategy, systems, and design skills to do it well.
Across our time together, we'll work at the intersection of Regenerative Land Design, Applied Herbalism, and Value-Added Production. You'll leave with practical knowledge, a working design project, and a clearer sense of how to build a livelihood rooted in the medicine of your own bioregion.
Who This Is For
This is an advanced course. It's designed for those who already have a foundation in either permaculture or herbalism and want to expand into the other — and for practitioners ready to integrate growing, processing, and selling into one coherent practice. If you're drawn to water systems, agroforestry, or building regenerative enterprises, you'll find your people here.

Regenerative Herbalism: Principles & Strategy
How the ethics and principles of permaculture shape a modern herbal practice, and how to position your work within cyclical systems that generate real yields — both ecological and economic.

Advanced Permaculture Design Methodology
The scale of permanence, forest ecology, lunar rhythms, and the social dimensions of permaculture that ground our work in relationship, community, and reckoning with the human elements of land-based work.

Designing with Water
A focused exploration of water systems for those ready to go deeper. Water is the organising element of any regenerative landscape, and we'll treat it that way.

Food Forests & Syntropic Agroforestry
The multi-canopy approach, syntropic systems, and how to design productive perennial landscapes that include a meaningful medicinal layer.

Plant Guilds with a Herbal Focus
The plant families that bring therapeutic value to the landscape, diet, and apothecary — including integrated pest management, pollinator support, and market-ready blends.

Medicine Making, Drying & Storage
Hands-on processing of medicinal plants into value-added products. Effective drying and storage strategies that prevent mould, insect damage, and loss.

Herbal Value-Added Products & Market Strategy
Reading the needs of your local community and designing products that make people healthier and more connected to the medicine of their bioregion.

Cycles, Yields & Regenerative Enterprise
How to generate a yield in current market conditions. Cyclical opportunity, transformation, and the practical realities of building a regenerative herbal business.

Design Project: Integrating Medicinals into the Market Garden
A guided design project where you'll weave medicinal herbs into a working market garden and its edges, with dedicated design time and direct feedback from the teaching team.

On-Farm Experience
Taught on a working farm
The course is taught on a working farm with established agroforestry systems and a productive market garden. You'll tour the land, walk the flower and herb plots, work hands-on with medicinal plants, and close each day in community through shared meals and conversation.
Social permaculture isn't a side topic here — it's part of how the course is run.

Sarah Wu
Regenerative Herbalism & Permaculture Design
A devoted educational curator and mentor with 25+ years in regenerative herbal medicine. Sarah has led over 30 Permaculture Design Courses and teaches across the US, Europe, and Latin America. Her unique curriculum, Permaculture for the Herbalists Path, explores the relationship between the human body and the landscape.
Benjamin Fahrer
Regenerative Farm Design & Ecological Systems
30+ years of experience in organic and ecological farming, focusing on designing and building integrated farming systems that serve both nature and community. Founder of Top Leaf Farms, Education Advisor with the Regenerative Organic Alliance, and faculty at the Market Gardener Institute.
María Giménez
Syntropic Agroforestry & Host Farm
Founder of Wilmar's Gärten — the working farm and agroforestry site where the course is hosted, 40km south of Berlin. María brings deep expertise in syntropic agroforestry and regenerative farm systems design. She leads the farm tour on Day 1 and co-facilitates the design project throughout the week, grounding the curriculum in the living landscape of her own land.
